A student visa is a government-issued visa that allows students to complete their studies in an overseas country. Student visas are categorised into F1, J1, or M1 visas. A student with F1 and J1 visas is allowed to study and work, whereas students with M1 visas are only allowed to study.
The F1 visa is the common type of student visa given to students attending an academic or certain program. To manage legal F1 visa status, students must be enrolled full-time. And they can also work up to 20 hours a week.
J1 visa is similar to F1 visa, allowing international students to receive practical training. Most of the applicants applying for this visa are foreign exchange students.
M1 visas are for students who want non-academic or vocational schooling. Unlike the F1 and J1 visas, M1 visa holders cannot be employed during their studies.
If you receive an F1 or M1 visa, your partner or children can receive an F2 or M2 visa. This visa can be called a dependents visa. Preferably, partner and children can apply for the F2 or M2 visa simultaneously as the F1 or M1 visa applicant.
